How to legalise a document
Our Consular Section can authenticate and legalise Maltese documents or certificates by certifying the signature of an authorised Maltese official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is necessary when a non-Maltese authority asks for a Maltese document, such as a Maltese marriage certificate, to be legalised. We can also assist in making or verifying copies of documents originated in the UK, and certifying them to be true copies.
When required by third parties, British documents and certificates should be certified as such by the British Legislation Office in the UK or a British notary or solicitor empowered to provide such a service. Details of the Legislation Office are given on the Foreign Office website.
